July 15th. Newport Show.
The weather was kind today. No rain and not too hot! Top Rock Valua was 1st in her yearling class and she behaved well today! Top Rock Madge was 1st. in the coloured class and 3rd in the 2 and 3 year old class. Top Rock Mess was 3rd in the foal class. Altogether a pleasing day.July 9th. North Shropshire Driving Club Show.
Not quite such an early start today but the weather was still wet cold and miserable. I was so tired before even setting out for the show because a mare that I thought would foal had kept me awake most of the night. I nearly persuaded myself not to go but having bathed Emperor on returning from the show the day before and having done all the preparations I decided I would feel better if I went! It was only a small local show and Emperor and Madge went into every possible class.. We had a marvelous day despite wet and wind and returned with the in hand Champion, the driven champion a trophy, six bottles of wind and six red rosettes. What a day!. I was as tired as Emperor when we had finishe but it was a day to remember.
July
8th. 2000 Flint and Denbigh Show.
Despite a bad forecast we set off at 5.50 a.m. to Wales. We had a good run and arrived first on the field at 7.30 a.m. It was freezing and raining and we found great difficulty in putting the awning up but once we had done that and blocked the icy wind out we were the envy of everyone on the field. Calamity Jane , my 2 year old Section C filly walked out of the box and was very surprised to find herself at her first show. She flatly refused to stand under the awning out of the rain until she saw the shetland go under and then she changed her mind. I entered Calamity in the Open 2 and 3 year old class. She behaved very well for first time and I was thrilled with her 2nd rosette. Valua , a yearling behaved dreadfully. It was her second show. The first one she was very subdued but today she was a little monster. We managed a second out of three. Madge was first in her shetland class and finished the afternoon by becoming the champion shetland much to my surprise. Blue Bird was 3rd in the mare class. Calamity was entered in the Welsh Section C class but by the time the class arrived she was so tired I could hardly keep her awake. We managed a 3rd in that one.
We were late leaving as we had to go into the Supreme Champion Class.

lifted and rain threatened us all day. Venous won his foal class. Top Rock Valua

We took 8 ponies to Ellastone Show. Five in the horse box and 3 in the trailer
which we towed behind the box. The weather was beautiful; in fact it was too
hot so we rigged up an awning between the box and the trailer to give the ponies
some shade. We were fortunate enough to be able to park right out side the ring
entrance so we did not have far to walk. Top Rock Madge was1st in the coloured
class and first in the 2 and 3 y o miniature class. Emperor was 2nd in the stallion
class and 2nd in the veteran class. Palleva Molly Malone was 1st in the 2 and
3 y o and Junior Shetland Champion . Venous was 2nd in the foal class. Top Rock
Vanity was 1st in her yearling class. All in all we had a good day and returned
with lots of rosettes and 4 trophies.
That's 3 shows in one week. Thank goodness there is a full week before the next
one!!
